Radiant: Rider-Waite-Smith Tarot-Nine of Swords

Both the Rider-Waite-Smith card and Archeon Tarot-9 of Swords stresses the more prosaic meanings of despair, illness, suffering, insomnia, and cruelty as if awakening from a bad dream. The sub-conscious is the place in the brain Intouch with the Akashic mental fluid of the Collective Unconscious, where dreams are made into form and can, with enough emotional concentration, become reality.

Sleep induces the subconscious state as we "turn off" the awake conscious state of sensual awareness. Hence, it is the place of the survival mind which can easily be hypnotized by suggestions for survival by the few who rule the cultural egregore and/or one the individual thinks is an authority. Here is where Pavlovian theory takes over by the practice of cruelty (pleasure pain training).

Pavlovian theory, also known as classical conditioning, is a psychological concept developed by Russian physiologist Ivan Pavlov in the early 20th century. It describes how organisms can learn to associate a previously neutral stimulus with a significant event, leading to a conditioned response. Here's a brief rundown:

  1. Unconditioned Stimulus (UCS): A stimulus that naturally and automatically triggers a response. In Pavlov's famous experiment, food is the UCS, as it naturally causes dogs to salivate.

  2. Unconditioned Response (UCR): The automatic, unlearned reaction to the unconditioned stimulus. In Pavlov’s dogs, salivating in response to food is the UCR.

  3. Conditioned Stimulus (CS): A previously neutral stimulus that, after being paired repeatedly with the unconditioned stimulus, triggers a learned response. In the experiment, a bell became the CS after being associated with the food.

  4. Conditioned Response (CR): The learned response to the conditioned stimulus. After conditioning, the dogs began to salivate (CR) when they heard the bell (CS), even if no food (UCS) was present.

The key idea of Pavlovian theory is that through association and repetition, organisms can be conditioned to respond to stimuli in ways they wouldn’t naturally, which lays the foundation for understanding how learning and behavior modification work. This concept is fundamental in both behavioral psychology and learning theory and the creation of an egregore. This is how lies become truth and how the Military Industrial Complex and it's control over the media turn you into a "nice doggy".

broken image

This subconscious state of dreaming serves as both a mirror and a laboratory for the psyche. It reveals distortions in our thought processes—our “psychic software”—and offers the conscious self an opportunity to resolve them. However, when the subconscious is profaned by Pavlovian conditioning or societal indoctrination, it can also generate new errors, perpetuating cycles of fear, repression, or confusion. This is one reason why mystics, magicians, and therapists alike recommend keeping a dream journal: by recording one’s dreams upon awakening, the fresh symbols and narratives can be consciously examined and integrated before they dissolve into the forgetfulness of waking life.

broken image

In Hermetic Qabalah, this phenomenon aligns with the interplay of the Sephiroth on the Tree of Life. Yesod—the ninth Sephirah and Sphere of the Moon—governs dreams, memory, and the imaginative astral matrix. It is here that subconscious images are first clothed in symbolic form. The conscious self, rooted in Tiphareth—the Solar Self or true Ego—descends into Yesod during sleep to witness, explore, and potentially reorder these astral impressions. Beyond both lies Kether, the Crown, the undifferentiated source whose silent dreaming is the very ground of being.

This cosmology reveals a profound inversion of Western assumptions: our Psyche, the Solar Self (Tiphareth), is itself dreamed into existence by the Unconscious Dreamer (Kether), while we, in turn, participate in the dreamscape of Yesod as lucid avatars. One aspect of the Soul dreams the cosmos into being; another actively participates within that dream as an observer-creator capable of correcting disorder and harmonizing the dream with the Divine Will.

Thus, you—the Avatar projected by the Soul—are not a passive wanderer in life’s labyrinth but an active force in the Dream of Form. Every act, every thought, every image encountered in waking life becomes a glyph in the Great Work: the unification of Yesod’s reflected illusions with Tiphareth’s radiant Solar truth, all aligned to Kether’s silent perfection.

broken image

in Hindu mythology, Vishnu (Creation God) exists in both the sleeping and waking states, each embodying different aspects of cosmic order and a perfect description of the subconscious and waking conscious states of an individual.

  1. Sleeping Vishnu (Yoganidra): Vishnu in his cosmic slumber (Yoganidra) rests on the serpent Ananta (or Shesha) floating in the cosmic ocean. In this state, Vishnu dreams the universe into existence. This sleeping state symbolizes potentiality and the unmanifest aspect of the universe, where creation, preservation, and destruction happen within his dream. The cyclic nature of the cosmos is tied to Vishnu’s cosmic sleep, and when he awakens, the universe dissolves back into him, signaling the end of the cosmic cycle.

  2. Awake Vishnu (Active Manifestation): While Vishnu dreams, he simultaneously manifests through his avatars to maintain cosmic balance and act within the universe. In his waking state, he takes forms such as Rama, Krishna, Narasimha, and others. These avatars intervene to restore dharma (cosmic law), emphasizing his role as the preserver and protector of the universe. Here, Vishnu is active within the dream (the universe), interacting directly with beings, guiding them toward righteousness, and correcting imbalances.

In this way, Vishnu and your Soul exists as both the transcendental, dreaming deity and the immanent, active force within the universe, harmonizing the cosmos from both planes of reality. His dual role mirrors the balance of the passive and active principles in creation.

However, if one acts solely upon programming imposed by outside authority—particularly the social egregore engineered by the few who rule the many—then one becomes a participant in a collective dream not authored by the Soul but by the Archonic machinery of the Military Industrial Complex and multinational corporations. This egregore operates as an artificial construct within Yesod (the lunar sphere of the Astral), distorting the natural flow of archetypes and impressions descending from Tiphareth (the Solar Self).

Such programming enforces conformity through fear. By establishing a homogenized cultural egregore—a psychic field of artificial consensus—the architects of this system weaponize the fantasy of peer pressure. Individuals are coerced into identifying with a nightmare reality, haunted by the false jeopardy of social rejection rather than guided by their Soul’s original purpose for dreaming them into incarnation.

broken image

From a Hermetic perspective, this is the work of the Archons—those forces of inertia and control that seek to bind consciousness within the illusory shell of Qliphothic Yesod, the Shadow of the Moon. The aspirant’s task, therefore, is lucidity: to awaken within the dream, discern the lies woven by the Archonic Military Industrial Complex egregore, and correct these dysfunctions within the microcosm of one’s own psyche.

broken image

To do so is to reestablish alignment between Kether (the silent Crown whose dream births all being), Tiphareth (the Solar Soul who dreams the avatar into life), and Yesod (the astral mirror where forms are shaped). In this alignment, the aspirant reclaims the role of active observer-creator, transforming life from a programmed nightmare into a lucid dream of conscious evolution and Divine Will.

broken image

You may think this silly, but an egregore can absolutely be a cultural creation. In esoteric and occult traditions, an egregore is typically understood as a collective thought-form or psychic entity that is generated and sustained by the combined focus, emotions, and intentions of a group of people. Over time, these group energies can give rise to an autonomous force that takes on a life of its own, influencing the people who contribute to it. We know common egregores as a "country", a religion, and/or cultures.

When applied to culture, an egregore can emerge as a kind of cultural entity or archetype. Entire nations, ideologies, religions, and social movements can develop egregores, which are formed from the shared beliefs, values, myths, and symbols of that culture. These egregores become more than just ideas—they take on a life-like presence, influencing behavior, shaping collective identity, and affecting societal development.

For example:

  • Nationalism: The concept of a nation or collective identity can be seen as an egregore, fueled by the shared consciousness, history, and aspirations of its people.
  • Religious symbols or figures: Deities or religious figures (such as Christ, Buddha, or mythological gods) can be seen as egregores that have been culturally created, taking on reality within the collective psyche of their followers.
  • Corporate or political entities: Modern institutions like large corporations or political ideologies can also be considered egregores, existing as more than mere structures—they hold collective power and influence people's behavior.

Cultural egregores become self-perpetuating forces that guide the actions, beliefs, and perceptions of the individuals within that culture, often without those individuals being fully aware of their participation in sustaining the egregore's existence. This idea emphasizes how human societies co-create forces that, in turn, shape them.

broken image

Therefore, the phrase "the few who rule the many" captures the concept of oligarchy or elitism, where a small group of individuals holds power over a larger population. While this exact phrase is not universally attributed to a single author, the idea has been discussed in various political and philosophical works throughout history.

One influential thinker who articulated a similar idea was Vilfredo Pareto, an Italian sociologist and economist, who is best known for his "elite theory." In his book "The Mind and Society" (Trattato di Sociologia Generale, 1916), Pareto posited that society is always divided into two groups: the "elite" (the few) who rule and the "mass" (the many) who are ruled. His concept of the "circulation of elites" suggests that even in democratic societies, a small group of people tends to dominate decision-making.

The notion of the "few ruling the many" can also be traced to earlier works, such as those by Plato and Aristotle, who discussed aristocracy, oligarchy, and the concentration of power in the hands of a small elite.

broken image

To break out of this ruler-controlled egregore mental prison is to; Above all things, know thyself! One must start a paradigm of self-authority. Hence, you must rule your collective empire of Spirit-Mind-body. When I start thinking in egregore programed automatic response, I often run a correctional mental loop of, "Get over yourself and get on with you! Impeccability is what we do". It just overrides the "pity pot" of self-defeating cruel indoctrinated thought every time it comes online. But installing that software loop, took determination, and plain old fashion "jack Ass " stubbornness and constant repetition, a meditation of seconds, done most minutes, until it becomes automatic.

Don't you think it's time we programed our own hardware/wet ware after all our body/brain is the Avatar of the Celestial Dreamer! In fact, we are authorized to act as an Ambassador of Spirit and/or the "will of the One" in our realm of Spirit-Mind-Body. That is the real message of the 9 of Swords and the axiom of;

ABOVE ALL THINGS, KNOW THYSELF!

The Archeon Tarot - 9 of Swords

The Archeon Tarot – 9 of Swords portrays a hauntingly profound scene: a male figure kneels in hopelessness, clinging to the lap of a dark-winged feminine presence—an archetype that may be read as the Holy Guardian Angel in Her shadow aspect or as Lilith, the Dark Mother. In the foreground, a barrier of nine swords rises like prison bars, symbolizing a self-created captivity of thought and fear. Beyond this iron fence, the first faint glow of dawn appears—a distant promise of renewal for those who endure the night.

The darkened wings signify a veiled Moon—the occult image of the Feminine. Here, the Moon is not the nurturing silver orb of Yesod’s intuitive waters but its shadowed reflection, magnifying the inner terrors and unprocessed guilt that haunt the psyche. This card reflects despair, worry, pressure, guilt, depression, hopelessness, and melancholy—states born not of outer circumstance but of the mind’s own distorted self-image. As the Hermetic axiom states: “As one thinks, so one becomes.” The thoughts of the day coagulate into the nightmares of the night.

Yet, when inverted or alchemically transmuted, this card reveals its concealed gift: faith, trust, promise, and the cessation of suffering. The dawn beyond the swords foreshadows the restoration of Solar clarity—Tiphareth shining through the illusions of Yesod—reminding the seeker that despair is transient and born of misperception.

Qabalistic and Astrological Correspondences:

  • Sephirah: Yesod (Foundation), veiled by the Qliphothic shadow.

  • Pathworking: Transformation of shadowed lunar energies into Solar harmony via the Middle Pillar.

  • Astrological Influence: Mars in Gemini—mental turbulence, internal conflict, and overactive thought patterns leading to self-inflicted anxiety.

  • Archetype: The shadowed Holy Guardian Angel / Lilith—the guide who confronts the seeker with hidden fears, initiating deep purification.

The lesson of this card is the Hermetic art of lucid awareness: to recognize the prison as self-forged, to awaken within the dream, and to ascend through Yesod’s illusions toward the radiant balance of Tiphareth. Here despair is transmuted into spiritual resolve, and the shadow becomes an ally on the path to union with the Higher Self.

This card speaks to the principle of give and take—an energetic reciprocity that governs both personal and professional relationships. It suggests great generosity, though such generosity is not always purely charitable; it can also manifest as courtesy, charm, and the graceful exchange of energy between individuals. In matters of the heart, this card points to a courteous and pleasant dynamic—an active and ongoing process rather than a final result. In business partnerships, it may indicate a companionable relationship where mutual respect is evident; yet, it also warns that such harmony does not guarantee profit, especially in the predatory “dog-eat-dog” world of competitive enterprise, where fear and mistrust often replace cooperation and integrity.

At its core, this card calls for ethical reciprocity: when one treats others as they themselves wish to be treated, the mind finds rest and the soul sleeps in peace. It also confronts the restless torment caused by emotional cruelty—whether inflicted or endured. If you have been mistreated, yet respond with cruelty toward others, your nights will remain sleepless, haunted by unresolved shadows of guilt. The healing begins by forgiving others, but equally by forgiving yourself—restoring self-trust and breaking the cycle of harm.

This card’s higher teaching echoes the Delphic maxim: “Above all things, know thyself.” Recognizing your own patterns of wounding and cruelty is the first step toward transformation. In Qabalistic terms, this is the harmonizing of Geburah (Severity) with Chesed (Mercy)—balancing judgment with compassion—so that the flow between them resolves in the beauty of Tiphareth, the Solar Self.

broken image

The realm of Yesod, is the Astral world of "Odic Force", as described by Von Reichenbach; a mid- nineteenth century investigator of psychic phenomena. This force is now known as the Astral light, or the Akashic Fluid and it is the foundational energy state of all physical material. Western Hermetic Magick is just the willfully controlled manipulation of this Akashic fluid into various states of energy forms by the mental process of willed emotional focus. intent, and/or meditation. This is where Thought forms are produced before they become manifested as a crystalized and/or the coagulated - "me".

Here, each of us has the capacity to produce within ourselves our living self- image and to profoundly experience that production as "our life": for we are Life. This may sound silly to those who think that we somehow pursue life, rather than being the Life that makes the alive in its own name of I Am. But stop a minute and think, the word Spirit is from the Greek root word Spiro which means breath. The body lives because of this Breath within it.... you are that Breath!

broken image

I AM!

Therefore, Spirit is the Willed Life animating the body; the body is not a separate entity but the living vessel through which Spirit manifests its Will into form. The physical being—the avatar you inhabit—is nothing less than the crystallization of Spirit’s Will to experience itself.

The declaration “I am the life of me” is a profound Hermetic truth, revealing that the “I AM” is not the limited personality but the eternal state of pure conscious energy. This “I AM” is the unconditioned source that dreams the artificial “me” into manifestation as self-consciousness in time and space.

Through this process, mental Akashic fluid—the formless, infinite field of thought—coalesces. When animated by breath and self-awareness, it produces emotive energy, condenses into form, and becomes what we call a living being. Yet, crucially, the perceiver is never the object perceived: you are not even the “first matter” (prima materia) of thought itself—you are the Invisible Space in which thought appears, the boundless subjectivity that the temporal “me” attempts to measure and define---an Ocean of mind.

broken image

“I AM” is the primal declaration of existence—but existence of what? That very question catalyzes the movement of Spirit into manifestation, the descent of the unmeasured into measured forms, birthing objectivity within subjectivity. The Infinite Mind, being immeasurable, creates measurement in order to view and know itself. Hence, you are not a problem to be solved, rather, you are the solution coagulated.

In Qabalistic understanding, the I AM corresponds to Kether, the Crown—the pure being beyond duality. The “Me” is born as it descends through Chokmah (Wisdom) and Binah (Understanding), polarizing into force and form, and ultimately crystallizing into the astral foundation of Yesod and the material world of Malkuth. The “Me,” then, is nothing more than the dream of the I AM—a lucid experiment in self-awareness within the living matrix of creation.

This insight reframes the entire human experience: the personality is the mask, the actor upon the stage, while the true identity—the I AM—remains the silent witness beyond the play, learning through its participation in form.

broken image

Your truth is "I AM" what you think you are, is an assumption. Every emotional thought you create, becomes your identity as Life and if not, the function you wish, is easily corrected by the will to actively do so.

broken image

The Divine Hermaphrodite/Hermaphroditus

So, stop doubting yourself—and become the answer itself! Examine your thoughts; they are yours to witness and shape, not masters to obey. We are not automatons. Programmed thinking—conditioned by fear, indoctrination, and cultural egregores—locks us into reaction rather than conscious action. Reaction is blind reflex; action is willed creation.

Recognize this: your thoughts are not you. You are their author. By reclaiming authority over thought—by engaging both common and uncommon sense—you return to your natural state as the observer-creator rather than the prisoner of mental habit.

Action is the Fiery Will of Spirit moving through you, the evolutionary impulse of self-identity unfolding toward higher states of consciousness. Reaction, by contrast, belongs to the uncertain animal mind—the Nephesh—programmed by survival and convinced that the universe is hostile. Spirit, however, does not fear; it acts, creates, and transforms the environment it observes.

In Qabalistic terms, this shift from reaction to action is the alignment of the lower lunar self of Yesod (instinct and conditioned patterns) with the Solar Will of Tiphareth (true selfhood). When these harmonize, the Soul ceases to identify with fear and begins to participate consciously in the Great Work: the unification of the “I AM” with the “Me".

broken image

The Waite and Archeon Tarot – 9 of Swords reveal a profound inner conflict: being your own worst enemy, divided against yourself mentally and emotionally. This is the voice of constant nay-saying—the inner critic that sabotages motion before it even begins. Fear of the worst paralyzes you, flogging the body for imagined failures born from coding errors the mind itself has produced.

broken image

This card is the embodiment of “a moment of doubt” stretched into a lifetime. Doubt is natural—every new motion threatens the safety of the old—but when doubt becomes the default lens, progress grinds to a halt. Yet even amid despair, the Child of Wonder—the innocent curiosity of the Soul—still lives within you. When that Child opens its “I’s,” you will act, for the Soul cannot resist its own destiny of expansion and discovery.

Form, by nature, has a beginning and an end; but Spirit, the One Energy behind all forms, cannot be created or destroyed. It is the Alpha and Omega of manifestation. The wise recognize that the body is temporary, but the Spirit is eternal—ever striving forward. Just as Dark Energy drives the cosmos outward, Spirit drives the soul toward greater self-knowledge and expression. Life is Motion. Spirit is the Driver. The Body is the Vehicle.

Thus, the key question arises: Who is driving your body? Is it the conditioned lunar self of Yesod, reacting out of fear and survival coding? Or is it the Solar Self of Tiphareth—the true “I AM”—consciously steering the vehicle through the dream of life toward the Great Work of union with the Divine?

Qabalistic Insight:

  • The 9 of Swords sits in Yesod (Foundation), the lunar astral sphere where thoughts crystallize into emotion.

  • The challenge is alignment with Tiphareth (Beauty), the Solar center of the Higher Self, where doubt is transmuted into clarity and motion.

  • The card’s energy reflects Mars in Gemini—mental turbulence, internal conflict, and the battle between dualities of thought.

The lesson: become lucid in your own dream. Recognize that the doubting “me” is but a mask, and awaken as the “I AM” behind it. Only then does the Soul cease to flog itself and begin to drive forward with purpose.

broken image
broken image

The Waite- 9 of Swords implies that you must get off your ass of miserable egregore perspective and re-think the programing! It's easy to fail, all you must do is stop doing what you started. Success is a product of the stubborn optimist. This undaunted optimist is Your Immortal Celestial Soul who even if it kills "Me" (destroys the hardware) trying to accomplish a goal, it just reincarnates and keeps at it!

broken image

Since we are Mind (Psyche), we all will pound out the bugs of our software (definitions), some sooner than others, but we all will do it eventually. That is the purpose of sensuality after all--- learning to discriminate by experiencing the success and failure of our software/wetware!

Your soul will just "reabsorb" the wetware garbage (called "learning") and try another revision of it in "hardware/wetware performance; a performance that we know as "alive" and some call Karma.

broken image

Therefore, we can be the egregore "jackass" or ride that sucker in the direction we want to go!

broken image

Therefore, the 9 of Swords also suggests: Take a deep breath—and nurture yourself. Stress arises as a self-destructive reaction to an automatic chain: thought becomes emotion, and emotion becomes suffering. The first step toward healing is to break this unconscious cycle. Slow down. Step back. Take time for restoration—whether it is a spa day, a meditative ritual, or simply quietude beneath the open sky.

Understand this Hermetic truth: everything is imagined. When emotion is applied to imagination, imagination becomes “life.” Thus, life as we know it is not imposed upon us but emoted into existence by the Mind. Each individual life is the unique expression of the individual’s emotive energy.

broken image

To emote is to place energy in motion—a dynamic force we commonly call “emotion.” When directed unconsciously, this energy can enslave; when directed consciously, it becomes the very fuel for creation, transformation, and the Great Work of the Soul.

In the Qabalistic model:

  • Yesod (the Moon) is the astral sphere where thought-forms gather and are infused with emotional energy, shaping our perceptions.

  • These emoted energies descend into Malkuth (the Kingdom), becoming tangible experiences.

  • By aligning with Tiphareth (the Solar Self), we gain mastery over this process—transforming reactive emotion into deliberate creation.

The lesson: You are the dreamer and the animator. Emotions are not masters but messengers, revealing where energy is flowing. Redirect them consciously, and you reclaim your authorship of life itself.

Divinatory Meaning of the 9 of Swords (Rider-Waite-Smith & Archeon Tarot)

  • Experiencing ghastly nightmares born of arising fears and projected doubts, amplified by the unconscious.

  • Confronting inner demons; facing grief and weathering spiritual or psychological storms through endurance and patience.

  • A call to analyze and clarify thoughts, especially by engaging dreamwork and introspection to glean direction and understanding.

  • Infamy or social disgrace weighing on the psyche.

  • Extreme misery, bitterness, and even hatred born of internalized pain.

  • Chronic insomnia, nightmares, or disturbances of the astral body.

Hermetic and Qabalistic Insight

  • The 9 of Swords operates in the Sephirah of Yesod (Moon), the astral sphere where thought-forms and emotions coalesce. Here, distorted patterns magnify into nightmares if left unpurified.

  • Its astrological correspondence is Mars in Gemini, symbolizing mental agitation, duality, and internal conflict—the war within the mind.

  • The path of healing lies in rising to Tiphareth (Sun)—the Solar Self—which harmonizes the fragmented psyche through the light of the Higher Will.

  • The card’s lesson is a call to integrate shadow (Lilith/Holy Guardian Angel aspect) and reclaim authorship of the dream, transforming reaction into conscious creation.
